2. Overview

Langula is a language learning app that places the highest value on protecting your data. We do not operate our own server. All data is stored locally on your device or synced via Apple services (iCloud).

3. Local Data Storage

The app stores the following data exclusively on your device:

Name / Display name: Optionally entered by you and stored locally only to personalize the app.
Learning progress: Completed lessons, vocabulary status, spaced repetition intervals, earned certificates.
Settings: Language and app settings.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in the functionality of the app).

4. iCloud Key-Value Store Sync

If you have iCloud enabled on your device, Langula syncs your learning progress across your Apple devices via Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store.

Synchronization is handled via Apple servers in accordance with the Apple Privacy Policy.
We have no access to the data stored in iCloud.
You can disable iCloud sync at any time in your iOS settings.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent through enabling iCloud).

5. Microphone / Speech Recognition

Langula offers pronunciation exercises that require access to the microphone.

Speech recognition is performed entirely locally on your device (Apple Speech Framework).
No audio recordings are transmitted to any server — neither ours nor any third party's.
You will be asked for permission before first use (iOS permission dialog).
You can revoke the permission at any time in your iOS settings.

6. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The free version of the app displays advertisements via Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland).

AdMob may process the following data:

Advertising ID (IDFA) — only with your consent via the Apple ATT dialog (App Tracking Transparency)
IP address (truncated within the EU)
Device information (model, operating system)
Interactions with advertisements

ATT Dialog: When you first launch the app, you will be asked via the Apple ATT dialog whether you wish to allow app tracking. If you decline, AdMob will not use personalized advertising and will not have access to your IDFA.

7. Push Notifications

Langula can send local push notifications to remind you of learning exercises.

These notifications are scheduled locally on your device.
No data is sent to external servers.
You can disable notifications at any time in your iOS settings.

8. In-App Purchases

Purchases are processed through Apple's In-App Purchase system. We do not receive any payment data (credit card number, etc.). Apple processes this data in accordance with the Apple Privacy Policy.

9. No Own Server

We do not operate our own server and do not collect any data server-side. The app communicates exclusively with Apple services (iCloud, App Store, ATT) and Google AdMob.

10. Children's Privacy

Langula is not specifically directed at children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Processing by Google AdMob only takes place with consent via the ATT dialog, which should be confirmed by a legal guardian.

11. Your Rights under GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Access (Art. 15 GDPR): You can request information about your stored data.
Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): You can request the correction of inaccurate data.
Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): You can request the deletion of your data.
Restriction (Art. 18 GDPR): You can request the restriction of processing.
Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): You can request your data in a machine-readable format.
Objection (Art. 21 GDPR): You can object to the processing of your data.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, e.g., the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

12. Data Deletion

You can delete all locally stored data directly within the app:

Open the App Settings within Langula.
Select “Delete all data”.
Alternatively, you can uninstall the app, which will remove all local data.
iCloud data can be deleted under iOS > Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage.

13. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update this privacy policy as needed, for example in case of changes to the app's functionality or legal requirements. The current version is always available at this address.
